Artist and wordsmith Gini is caused to Re-imagine wheelchairs folllowing an experience at Osprey Leisure Centre
Gini and Sue have known each other since Testing the Edges, a project exploring disability, identity and artistic group dynamics at Salisbury Arts Centre in 2009. More recently Gini has been undertaking a creative and extensive body of work that combines her unique and undoubted skill of crafting the English language with an interpretation of audience reactions to the arts. She calls it Con.text and blogs regularly about it on Disability Arts Online.
"Friday before the weekend, on Portland, I met Sue ('Creating the Spectacle!') Austin's underwater wheelchair; looking like a basking bird and performing like a walrus on land, it was transformed with Sue under water to encompass qualities of a magical, mystical sea-creature."
